Voices in the Attic

splash_g_6x2This was definitely an odd one. During our first investigation the first Southington house, Crystal, one of the homeowners and myself were in the attic.  Crystal sat down and I was a few steps behind her. Crystal said “Tell them we’ll be back.” I then said that we’d be back.

The problem was, Crystal never said anything.

Crystal then asked me why we were leaving. I told her that she asked me to tell whoever was there that we would be back. Naturally, she replied “I didn’t say anything.” We asked the homeowner, and they also said that Crystal didn’t say anything. I didn’t think about it much further for the rest of the evening.

Fast forward two days. I received an email from a very excited Crystal, with an attachment containing an audio file.  Of course, you know where this is going — the voice I heard in the attic was crystal-clear (if you’ll excuse the expression), in the recording.

In listening to this recording, I can hear almost a warbling, unsteady sound in the voice. Crystal did a preliminary analysis, and described it as what seems like two voices overlaying each other, with a slight time shift between them.

You can play the recording below and hear for yourself. Is this actually an EVP? (We left the entire dialog intact for better context.)

  1. The voice saying “(Something) will be back” (I’m not sure it sounds like “Tell them”–to me it sounds like a name like Toby or Torbal–sounds like it has a bit of an accent, which would confuse the wording for the team. Possibly a hurried Irish or Scottish accent? I can’t discern. There also seems to be something else in the background while you guys are talking. Maybe a layering of the conversation with the known voices taken out would show more of what was said? I do know that the cadence of the first “ghostly” comment was not the same as the other females’ voices on the recording. Very nice catch, there, folks!

  2. When I heard the voice, I was positive it was spoken out loud. That was the first time I have ever experienced anything quite like that. I was so surprised when I heard the recording — I honestly never expected it to show up.
